I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in September 2012. Three different areas, three different stages all in one breast. I was extremely fortunate my cancer was found during my annual mammogram. My message to others is all around Early Detection. It is key to having a successful journey. I found it “bought me time” to become educated about my options, to visit with several doctors to understand why they call this a “journey”, and to have several tests run that assisted my doctors in developing my individualized treatment plan. Most importantly, it gave me time to get over the shock of hearing the “C” word applied to me and to get my mind ready for the fight! I was not going to let Breast Cancer define me nor defeat me. I am blessed to be a survivor and cherish every lesson I have learned along the way. One of bucket list items was to find a way to give back, to spread the word about Early Detection. Susan G. Komen is such a great organization and has been wonderful to work with this past year. They provided that opportunity for me to share my story, their story, and the story of why Early Detection is so critical. They need our support to continue all the very important work they do! It’s very rewarding to get involved with others and so very inspiring to keep living the good life!
